June 23, 2005;
They have signed a deal with a Tier 1 US mobile operator for a significant sum of upfront cash, plus ongoing fees - to work on up to 6 million handsets, a smallish proportion of the Telco's customer base.

DAT Mobility Platform Selected for Over-The-Air Device Management of Handsets / Major Licensing Agreement Signed

DAT Group plc (DAT), a leading developer of mobile device management software, today announced a multi-million dollar deal with a leading U.S. mobile phone operator. Under the terms of the deal, DAT will provide its DAT Mobility Platform (DMP) as an important component in the operator’s mobile device management strategy. The U.S. operator will utilise DMP-powered applications to provide over-the-air device management of phone settings, firmware updates, content and device diagnostics to millions of unique handsets.

Centralised mobile device management is a critical factor in enabling operators to provision phone settings, firmware updates, content and device diagnostics on mobile phones while lowering their support costs. As a robust mobile device management solution, the DAT Mobility Platform today is a complete solution that makes such provisioning both easier and more cost effective.

DAT Mobile Device Management Solutions help mobile operators add value and enhance service levels for subscribers. Applications powered by DMP provide operators with the tools needed to meet growing subscriber demands. In trials carried during 2005, the mobile operator integrated DMP into its existing infrastructure and demonstrated the reliability and flexibility of DMP as a carrier-grade service delivery platform.

David Hayes, CEO of DAT commented “With this U.S.-based customer we believe we are deploying the world’s first authentic, in-network device management solution - apart from simple SIM card management. DMP has proven it has the reliability and the functionality to handle mobile device management for millions of devices in one of the world’s most demanding markets”.

“Following the successful completion of these trials, the mobile operator has signed a software licence and master services agreement with DAT Group that will give it a perpetual licence to use current DMP powered applications to provide over-the-air device management of phone settings, firmware updates, content and device diagnostics for up to six million unique handsets, which represents a proportion of the customer’s total subscriber base”.
