mmO2 to launch faster 3G with help of HSDPA
December 06, 2004;
HSDPA brings three times faster download speeds, than regular 3G (WCDMA).

HSDPA stands for "high-speed download packet access". HSDPA will not be availbale by mmO2 (UK) neither in year 2004 nor in year 2005, because of the lack of proper handsets. Currently HSDPA is being tested by mmO2 with use prototype/test handsets from Samsung and Nokia. Broad availability of HSDPA cell phones is expected around year 2006. O2 says that if possible it would like to lunch commercially HSDPA service by the end of 2005 but of course it all depends on availability of proper handsets!

Network infrastructure provider for 3G HSDPA for O2 is Lucent. Apparently again Nokia Networks failed to get this job.

O2 is trialing also "TV-on-the-go" service for 3G and also in future it plans to use HSDPA for television broadcasting in cell phones.
