Amazon Japan launches barcode scanning service for camera phones

Japanese users of cellphones equipped with camera can now take pictures of product barcodes and the fun begins...

Upon scanning of the barcode the cellphone with camera is connecting to Amazon Japan webservice and is getting pricing information and additional product information. In this way customers can excercise comparative buying and take more informed buying decisions.

Soon the most important feature of a built-in camera in cellphones will not be a quality of photos but how well it is usable for barcode scanning of various types of barcodes!
