Nokia - Opera relations explained October 14, 2004; Nokia started making its own browser and given up Opera Browser for its Symbian series of devices. Explanation follows... Nokia, instead of allowing Opera company to sell their browser for all platforms, including competition, was trying to lock Opera into an exclusive deal: The rapid progress in the development of Opera Browser by Opera is Opera's attempt to pre-emptively deal with being dumped by Nokia. Nokia tried to put Opera into an exclusive contract thus banning them from releasing a version for any other platform. This is part of the reason behind Nokia abandoning the Opera browser for future reference designs. However Nokia did not dump Opera wholly - the two companies are still working closely on some forthcoming devices. Back to other news index |
