Nokia taken by surprise + Finns "reveal" truth about Japan, USA and Europe and their skills in cell phone industry May 15, 2004; Nokia has found new scapegoat to justify decreasing market share. Again Nokia is wrong: it is not that scapegoat that is to blame, but the fact that Nokia pigheadedly refuses to use Microsoft software in their cell phones! What scapegoat are we talking about? We talk about "clam-shell design"! Nokia now claims publicly that it is the lack of cell phones in clam-shell design that is to blame for decreasing market share of Nokia in cell phone industry! "Perhaps we should have paid a bit more attention to what was coming out of the Far East", Neuvo commented on Thursday at the Nokia offices in Farnborough, west of London. The small clam-shell mobiles, which boast relatively large screens under their protective flip covers, have proven immensely popular among consumers. Nokia has only one such phone in its product line, and its price is clearly at the high end. Furthermore we can learn from Finns, at last, which country is good in which technologies: Japan leads the field in multimedia, Europe and Finland are skilled in wireless communications, and the U.S. has the best internet know-how. ... what shows that stereotyping, rather than reality and market results, is the predominant perception in Finland.
