speech recognition in cell phones becomes better and better

State-of-the-art speech recognition software from VoiceSignal facilitates use of the VM-A680 in hands-free, eyes-free environments

VoiceSignal, a leading provider of voice activated applications for mobile devices, announced that the latest implementation of its state-of-the-art speech recognition software is included in Samsung's VM-A680 multi-media wireless phone. With this latest speaker-independent speech-recognition software, the VM-A680 features a variety of advanced productivity capabilities.

In a hands-free, eyes-free environment VoiceSignal's application allows users to launch multiple features, including the VM-A680's browser or camcorder capabilities simply by speaking a single command into the phone. Without prior training, VoiceSignal's Voice-Activated Phonebook (VAP) allows users to dial or look up any contact stored on the phone by saying the individual's name. The Digital Dial feature allows users to dial any number, simply by saying the number naturally and continuously. VoiceSignal's voice-activated "Status" feature enables users to view and hear updates of signal strength and battery life with simple voice commands.

Additional VoiceSignal features on the Samsung VM-A680 include:

* Voice-Activated Navigation - With a single command, users can access any VoiceSignal application without having to push multiple buttons.

* Voice-Activated Dialing - Working with a sophisticated voice user interface that combines speech recognition and synthesized text-to-speech output, users can dial any contact in the phone book without having to use their hands or look at the display.

* Voice Activated Phone Book - Users can look up all the contact information for any name stored in the handset's phone book.

* Digit Dialing - Users can dial any number, including those not in the handset phone book, by speaking the numbers, with no speech training required.

* Voice-Activated Status - With one voice command, users can instruct the phone to read aloud their current signal strength, battery level, roaming status and even their own phone number.

"Samsung's VM-A680 promotes creativity with its built-in multimedia capabilities, while the phone's leading-edge voice recognition software increases productivity for on-the-go consumers," said Peter Skaryzynski, senior vice president of Samsung's wireless terminals division. "As the wireless landscape evolves and consumers continue adopting multimedia messaging, Samsung rises to the challenge with the VM-A680's superior imaging technology."

"As the market for speech solutions continues to grow, Voice Signal is excited to be at the forefront, delivering applications that greatly simplify the way consumers interact with handheld devices," said Rich Geruson, CEO, Voice Signal Technologies. "The opportunities for voice-activated solutions on mobile devices are endless, and VoiceSignal is pleased to continue teaming with industry leaders such as Samsung to introduce new solutions that empower consumers and business users to be more efficient in their busy lives."

Available for $149.99 after rebates (SRP: $309.99), Samsung's VM-A680 is available at Sprint Stores, Best Buy and RadioShack.
