PalmSource and Visto Announce Availability of Mobile Mail 5.0 for Palm OS Garnet and Palm OS Cobalt

PalmSource, Inc. (provider of Palm OS, a operating system powering next generation mobile devices and smartphones, and Visto Corporation (www.visto.com), a provider of personal and corporate mobile messaging solutions to wireless operators for the broadest set of mobile device platforms, today announced the availability of Mobile Mail 5.0 for Palm OS Cobalt and Palm OS Garnet.

Mobile Mail 5.0 is the result of a joint development effort between PalmSource and Visto, announced in June 2003, to create a standard platform email client for the Palm OS platform. Mobile Mail 5.0 can be easily configured to work with Visto's mobile email solutions geared towards the mobile market. Wireless operators and Palm OS licensees will be able to provision Mobile Mail 5.0 for their customers using Visto Mobile Personal Edition for access to email on Palm Powered devices. Additionally, IT departments can use Mobile Mail with Visto Mobile Enterprise Server, giving enterprise employees access to corporate data and email on their Palm Powered devices.

Mobile Mail 5.0 is designed to provide secure and reliable, out-of-the-box wireless email functionality between Palm Powered smart mobile devices and corporate email servers such as Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino and POP3/IMAP email servers, allowing enterprise users and consumers to stay connected to corporate data while away from the office.

Mobile Mail 5.0 Key Features
  • Over-the-air push email as well as scheduled or user initiated email synchronization;
  • Easy configuration of email accounts setup;
  • Support for MS Exchange, Lotus Domino, through integration with Visto Mobile Personal Edition and Visto Mobile Enterprise Server;
  • Implements standard email protocols such as IMAP, POP3 and SMTP solution portfolio to meet the needs of mobile professionals, SMEs and large enterprises;
  • Improved security through SSL support and encrypted authentication; and
  • Enhanced IMAP folder support enables users to subscribe to up to 16 server folders.
