WAP 2.0 is being heralded as the browsing protocol for the mobile-masses, allowing access to messaging, information and entertainment applications, as well as to carrier portals, such as Vodafone Live!; Orange World; T-Zones; Nokia Club etc. Despite this promise, field trials and initial launches showed that the user experience for these applications is unacceptable both on 2.5G and 3G networks.
