CeBIT 2006: audio interview with Wayne Ma - president of E-TEN
March 13, 2006 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R.
E-TEN is a company located in Taiwan, that is producing Pocket PC phones since 5 years, is very focused on Pocket PC phones and treats them as their core business, and thus is one of the most competent companies in area of Windows Mobile phones!
In this interview we chat about latest Windows Mobile phones from E-TEN, about future phones from E-TEN and by the way we discover that E-TEN G500 Pocket PC phone not only has built-in GPS, built-in TMC but actually it has also built-in FM radio with RDS ... but it is not official yet and the radio application (a software program) will be delivered later and thus this phone will offer also full FM radio reception!
Wayne Ma is a president of E-TEN Information Systems Co., Ltd. and is responsible for Pocket PC phones at E-TEN (E-TEN is making also some other products):

- Wayne Ma says that E-TEN Pocket PC phones have very high stability and are very fast due to very good fine tuning (and not just because of usage of very fast 400 MHz processors from Samsung) - because of good and experienced (5 years experience in making Pocket PC phones!) team of engineers at E-TEN
- E-TEN is open to mobile operators (wireless carriers) and if some of them are interested in branding E-TEN phones under their own brand - E-TEN can do it!
- E-TEN G500 has also built-in FM radio with RDS (not even Xda Atom has RDS in their radio! not even g-smart has RDS in their radio!) ; RDS is a textual information displayed while playing radio that shows the name of the song or the number of the phone for phone-in or other information related to what is being played at given FM radio station
- E-TEN plans to release UMTS phones in year 2007 and EDGE phones in Q3 2006 - the reason why not to release UMTS phones in 2006 is: the UMTS technology and components are not mature enough
- E-TEN G500 is the only phone on the market that features both built-in GPS and built-in TMC (TMC is a traffic message channel, that enables dynamic avoidance of traffic jams in some countries)
- E-TEN is working now with Destinator and Navigator to provide support for TMC in their navigation applications. In future TMC support may be added also to TomTom and ALK CoPilot.
- ROM upgrades with push email for E-TEN phones will be released soon - and it is certain
- E-TEN phones M600 and G500 support A2DP while some other Windows Mobile phones have problems with it - this issue is being discussed in this interview
- E-TEN has GPS competence and help from RoyalTek - a company that has very good GPS technology and is specialized in GPS - that's why they could build E-TEN G500 effectively
