Motorola RAZR MPx4 - new stylish Pocket PC phone from Motorola - announced
March 31, 2005 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R.

We have received first information - from presentations made by Motorola for certain network operator - about new Pocket PC phone from Motorola: Motorola RAZR MPx4. Construction of Motorola RAZR MPx4 is based externally on a very succesful Motorola RAZR V3 phone and internally is an extension (with faster processor and more memory) of the Motorola MPx phone:

Motorola RAZR MPx4 - Pocket PC phone

Here are some highlights about this new phone:
  • no Qwerty keyboard (contrary to previous rumors)
  • very flat design - similarly like in Motorola RAZR V3
  • mini-USB
  • GSM quad-band, with GPRS and EDGE, but no UMTS
  • Wi-Fi (802.11g and 802.11b)
  • RAM and ROM: both 128 MB
  • integrated 2-megapixel camera
  • display resolution: 480x480 pixels
  • memory card slot: TransFlash (now known as "micro-SD")
  • powered by Windows Mobile 2005 for Pocket PC Phone Edition
  • Skype client pre-installed (in ROM)
  • release date: around October 2005
Conclusions: with Motorola RAZR V3 the Motorola corporation has managed to beat competition in one important point: style. Now with Motorola RAZR MPx4, Motorola hopes to transfer nice style to the world of smart phones and to compete with Symbian phones - not just on the level of operating system (remember: Symbian is owned in 49% by Nokia - so by supporting Symbian Motorola would support its main competitor), but also on the level of nice design and style.

We have also vague information that Motorola is working on next version of Motorola MPx (not flat one) with UMTS/3G on board, and Motorola MPx220 also with UMTS/3G. However neither names nor exact model names of these phones are known to us. One is for sure: Motorola is about to release series of very interesting Windows Mobile phones, some of them will be "for enterprises" (like Motorola MPx, Motorola MPx220 - but with UMTS/3G) and some will be "for masses, but very stylish" (like Motorola RAZR MPx4).
