3GSM World Congress 2005 coverage: rumor: Microsoft to announce palmOne as license taker of Windows Mobile February 14, 2005 [General] | By Edward J. R. Today, during keynote session in the morning Peter Knook - the highest guy in the hierarchy in Windows Mobile division - was participating (full report from this session we will publish later) and he mentioned something interesting: he said that major announcements related to Windows Mobile and Motorola and palmOne (!) will be presented during press conference of Microsoft at 3GSM World Congress 2005. This press conference will take place on 18:00 CET so there are yet a couple hours till this information will be public, but it could be that palmOne actually will start licensing Windows Mobile software to power their Treo smartphones! This is rumor yet, nothing confirmed, but the fact is that palmOne indicated that it is looking around for some operating software to differentiate from their only platform: Palm OS. In a related story, during the very same keynote session, where Peter Knook participated, also Pertti Korhonen, who is Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Nokia also participated. Due to the fact that at the end of this keynote session there was time for Q&A, we managed to ask him, directly, a question whether Nokia could consider using other operating systems in their smartphones and PDA phones - similarly like Motorola and Samsung do it! The answer of Pertti plus audio recording of the whole session (i.e. podcast) we will present later... watch this space...
