BenQ P50 Pocket PC phone coming very soon to USA and EU - or another pre-oder trick of a slippery online shop ? December 21, 2004 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. Just imagine: after several months of considerations and reading various sources - both online and in paper - you decided to buy certain cell phone. And then, all of a sudden you learn, that this powerful cell phone with built-in Wi-Fi, built-in Qwerty keyboard, Bluetooth, megapixel camera and very powerful processor of latest generation:
... will become very soon available, it will be very cheap and it will cost 50% of what comparable models from competition cost!!! What would you do? You would buy it! If the price will not be increased (another cheap trick of online retailers) then it will cost 449.95 US dollars or 274.95 British Pounds or 394.95 Euro! This is a price of a Microsoft Smartphone but you get for this price a full-blown Pocket PC Phone with Wi-Fi and other goodies. Actually this phone has potential to defeat Treo 650 because Treo 650 doesnt' have built-in Wi-Fi and has only VGA resolution camera while this BenQ P50 has megapixel camera. BenQ P50 is also superior to all Pocket PC phones made by now by HTC, including Blue Angel (i.e. MDA III or XDA IIs) - among others because it is smaller and weighs only 150 g compared to 210 g in case of the HTC's top model. Warning: in past Expansys - the online retailer that is offering BenQ P50 online for pre-oder now - was failing to deliver on time devices. Problems with i-mate JAM are not forgotten yet. Therefore, if you are really interested in this device, we advice you to: a) do not pre-order it, b) wait till this device will be in-stock and once it will be in-stock contact Expansys by e-mail and by phone and assure yourself 100% that this phone is in stock and ask how fast it will be delivered. All in all: Expansys, despite some problems with devices being delayed, has quite a good track record, particularly with regard to bringing Microsoft powered cell phones to people. Since usually people have to wait for operators' mercy to get some Microsoft powered cell phone, and then operators are binding customers with SIM locking, necessity to buy 1 or 2 years long subscriptions, etc - sometimes buying a phone independently from operators, despite being a bit more expensive in short term, maybe worthwhile!
