Software mini review : DVD-to-Mobile for Microsoft Smartphone (DVD to Smartphone) October 19, 2004 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R. Now that very fast Microsoft Smartphone cell phones like HTC Typhoon (branded as Audiovox STM5600, Orange SPV C500, i-mate SP3, etc) and Motorola MPx220 are on the market, we would like to turn your attention to the fact that they are very well suitable for watching DVD movies on the go! To show you how to do it, we are hereby presenting mini review of DVD-to-Mobile software. This program consists of 2 parts: the main part - a program for Windows XP - for converting DVD tracks to AVI files and tiny part on the side of Microsoft Smartphone, that actually is just an old version of BetaPlayer video player (newer version of BetaPlayer program you can get separately from here). After clicking on installation program you can observe the following picture:
And after installation the program appears in the start menu of your Windows XP:
To use it you need to enter user name and serial number, that you should get after buying this program:
If you entered correct user name and serial number then you will see this mini-dialog:
... and you can now observe a window with actual DVD-to-Mobile program:
In next step you need to pick proper folder that cotnains DVD tracks:
Above you can observe that this dialog is not wholly in English - it takes some local settings from the operating system (i.e. from Windows XP). Now you need to pick proper track, what can be tricky:
.. but rule of thumb is, that the biggest track should be the movie, the other tracks usually can be disregarded - additional material about the movie. Interestingly you can select operating system of your Microsoft Smartphone:
And if you are ready and if the movie plays back in the small window (on the display of the "virtual smartphone") then you are ready to press "Action":
After you press "Action" button it changes into "Stop" and the conversion of a DVD track to AVI file starts and runs:
The next step is encoding of extracted movie to a format suitable for Microsoft Smartphone:
Once all this extracting and encoding is ready (it may take several hours for a long movie) a file "DVD.avi" appears on your desktop:
Now you only need to copy DVD.avi file (through ActiveSync or through card reader) to your Microsoft Smartphone, where you need to open BetaPlayer program to play this video with high quality playback and very comfortably!
