Meet T-Mobile MDA Compact - a small Pocket PC phone made by HTC, makers of Xda series
September 15, 2004 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R.
This small Pocket PC phone strangely for some time will be a speed leader among Pocket PC phones: 416 MHz! On top of that built-in Bluetooth and megapixel camera! Wow. With relatively low price (comparable to Microsoft Smartphone phones) this phone will be a serious alternative for smartphones with keypads...
Here are some highlights about this nice and small Pocket PC phone:
- this phone will be available in November 2004 in Europe just for 490 Euros (price without subscription) - so it will be over 250 Euro cheaper than "big brother" - T-Mobile MDA III ...
- main distinctive feature: small size; dimensions: 108x58x18 mm
- cellular: GMS quad-band, so also American GSM850 band is covered
- processor: Intel Bulverde (latest generation with built-in power saving) 416 MHz (even faster than XDA 2 / MDA II)
- weight: 150 gram
- memory: 64 MB RAM
- built-in Bluetooth 1.2 (not older 1.1 !)
- SDIO card slot - compatible with SDIO WiFi cards, so you can right away add WiFi to this phone if you fancy it! You can't do that with Nokia smartphones and PDA phones - if they don't have WiFi then it can't be added as add-on. Windows Mobile phones are different, better.
- built-in camera (1.3 megapixel) - yes! it's confirmed: megapixel!
- USB connector: mini-USB (so industry standard! - you can reuse your mini-USB cables from other gadgets!)
- powered by Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC Second Edition - so it has native support for horizontal/vertical mode switching and much improved Internet browsing experienced in Microsoft IE (Internet Explorer).
