We will we will rock you : meet T-Mobile SDA Music - the Apple iPod killer + Nokia killer in one
September 14, 2004 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R.

It changes everything. "T-Mobile SDA Music" smartphone is coming to the market in 2 months (in November 2004) and it will change how we perceive smartphones:
T-Mobile SDA Music - Microsoft Smartphone
Standard business model of cell phone industry was such: big brand handset manufacturer, like Nokia for example, delivers handsets branded by itself to cellular network operators, that have no big say how these handsets look like. This big handset manufacturer also is spending millions of marketing money on promoting this handset and on promoting of its own brand, not brand of the operator - and operator is being treated like a dummy pipe - a distributor that should sell lame but over-marketed products of big brand handset vendor. Operator loses because end customers feel connected more to the handset vendor and are more susceptible to switching to another operator. End customer loses because millions spent on marketing, will not go to R&D (research and develpment) but instead will be just strengthening brand of the handset vendor.

T-Mobile SDA Music shows that new business model of cell phone industry is superior: business model, where the biggest (and the best) software producer on this planet - Microsoft - delivers operating system and the platform software, and both operator and hardware manufacturers can concentrate on their own strengths.

Here are some highlights and related information about T-Mobile SDA Music - a smartphone that will rock you, both methaphorically and literally:
  • the code name of "T-Mobile SDA Music" is HTC Amadeus what indicates that this phone - with additional music player control buttons - may be also available in future from other operators and distributors

  • the first very official information bits about T-Mobile SDA are these:

“The cell phone’s looks and functions are important factors when deciding which cell phone to buy,” said Martin Knauer, Marketing Director at T-Mobile Deutschland. “For example, we are defining an absolutely new generation of music-capable cell phones with our SDA Music phone, because the combination of cell phone and MP3 Player is unique at this time. The extraordinary design of the device will impress you as will the extensive multimedia functions – and at a very attractive price.”

The SDA Music phone lets T-Mobile customers enjoy an exclusive listening experience. The first Smart Phone with the Windows Mobile operating system not only allows access to Microsoft applications like Outlook, but also can be used to relax after work thanks to the integrated audio player. Other highlights of the device include an integrated VGA camera for taking photos and videos, an MP3 player and a stereo headset.

The SDA is directed at users who prefer a cell phone for mobile communication, but also want to use functions like e-mail or a calendar. The SDA provides for these functions using the Microsoft operating system Windows Mobile Smartphone 2003. Windows Mobile lets you receive and send e-mail, as well as manage your appointments using the SDA. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files can be easily read in the device’s large display.

  • price without subscription: 369.95 Euro

  • built-in Bluetooh and built-in VGA camera

  • essentially it is the same hardware as Orange SPV C500 (i-mate Smartphone 3) but it has 4 more buttons - 3 for music playback control and one to call T-Mobile's T-Zones service
