IBM releases free Java ( MIDP 2.0 + Personal profile) for Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC September 05, 2004 [Pocket PC] | By Edward J. R. Well, these Java virtual machines are part of Websphere Micro Development Edition and it is kind of evaluation version, but after downloading it, unpacking it, you get a Java virtual machine for your Pocket PC practically for free (to use it commercially you need to pay though) without time limts. Seeing is believing so here is a screen shot from this Java running inside of Pocket PC:

So you actually don't need to compile to install it in your Pocket PC or Microsoft Smartphone! The ActiveSync connection starts and the Java gets installed in your device! Please note: some people claim that this Websphere Micro Edition contains also a version for Microsoft Smartphone, but we coudln't confirm it in our tests (albeit we haven't tested too much!).
