Go-Window for Microsoft Smartphone announced (not released yet)
August 30, 2004 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R.

Barcodes are slowly becoming history and are being replaced by new technology - RFID (radio frequency identification). However some companies still dwell on past and offer solutions based on barcodes. In "Go-Window" solution user enters a number that is placed under the barcode, and then gets connected to information related to this barcode. Please note that it is possible make a photo of a barcode and recognize a barcode automatically, but since Microsoft lags 3-4 years behind Symbian and it will deliver common camera API not before summer 2005 (although Symbian phones having such API in year 2002 already), users need to enter numbers manually...

As we have said: future belongs to RFID - that are a labels equipped with electronic circuit that, when placed in vicinity of RFID sensor gets activated and sends information about unique ID of given object. Even Microsoft recognizes RFID as a future, because it has just (this month!) invested 100 million Taiwan dollars into RFID Excellence Center in Taiwan... however with help of cell phones some latest, remaining, potential from barcode technology can be utilized...

Information about Go-Window from NeoMedia follows.
