Interview with Mark Ewen from PowerByHand (owner of PocketGear.com and Smartphone.net) - Vice President for relations with mobile network operators (carriers)

Contrary to other web sites, that are writing about "everything, every topic, even remotely related to Windows Mobile", our focus is: cell phone industry. We all know that Microsof't experiences in cell phone industry are not (yet) very big - Microsoft is just getting started - so it may be interesting for you to read an interview with somebody with very big experiences (he said in the interview also "I've been doing deals with carriers since 1996") in cell phone industry!

Mark Ewen is Vice President of Sales, Americas in Pinpoint Networks company (specialized in selling wireless Java and other mobile content), a company that in March 2004 merged with PowerByHand - a company that owns Windows Mobile software shops: PocketGear.com and Smartphone.net . At PowerByHand (after merger) Mark Ewen is responsible for relations with carriers (i.e. mobile network operators). Mark Ewen is based in San Francisco, California, USA. PowerByHand’s headquarters are based in Raleigh, in Research Triangle, North Carolina, USA.

So before reading the interview it may be worthwhile to take a look at official information about Mark Ewen:

Mark is responsible for licensing Pinpoint's technology and services to wireless network operators throughout North America and Latin America.

He brings more than fifteen years of successful global experience in high technology sales and business development to Pinpoint Networks. Prior to Pinpoint, Mark spent almost 7 years at Openwave Systems, where he served in multiple capacities including area sales vice president, focusing on carrier sales in North America and parts of Latin America. Mark joined Openwave in 1996, when the company was named Unwired Planet, and held a number of strategic sales and business development positions where he helped close some of the first mobile gateway deals with Sprint PCS, ALLTEL, Rogers AT&T, Bell Mobility, Verizon Wireless, and others.

Prior to Openwave, Mark held executive sales and management positions at Netcom and Oracle Corporation. Mark earned a degree in Business from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, where he also serves on the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association.
