Nokia lies and deceives again
June 14, 2004 [General] | By Edward J. R.
Today, when trying to open Nokia's website we get the message: "Nokia.com is temporarily off-line for scheduled maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.". Beg your pardon, but "scheduled"? Just today, when CEO of Nokia - Jorma drunkard Olila made some major announcements about new phones and strategy of Nokia? No way! This a blatant, and so typical for Nokia, lie! The truth is simpler: Nokia's servers simply cannot cope with traffic in some peak days!
As if it would be not enough Nokia deceives cellular network operators and stock investors again:
- Nokia 6630 3G smartphone - announced today - has camera on the back, not in the front - thus using videotelephony is impossible with it. Again operators are being deceived into a phone that doesn't offer main advantage of 3G : videotelephony. Contrary to Motorola phones based on Microsoft software, Nokia 6630 doesn't have built-in flash, but only in attachable form. All in all a mediocre phone that should not be called a real 3G phone due to lack of videotelephony !
- Nokia releases "Series 60 Second Edition" - nothing but aping of Microsoft, that first used name "Second Edition" in the name of the latest version of Windows Mobile platform.
- new Nokia phones still use MMC memory cards - MMC being an outdated and slower standard - Nokia doesn't want SD card format that is already an industry standard, because Nokia doesn't want to pay any money to Panasonic, that holds SD standard patents.
- Jorma drunkard Olila previously was promising to investors market share of size 40% globally but now it dropped to 28%, not raised to the promised 40%. In other words: Nokia deceived investors and is being sued for this in USA. Now, instead of addressing this issue directly he evades it with lame boasting that this 40% target may be yet (in some distant future) achieved "We haven't set a date, but it's a very good target."
- Nokia puts all blame of its market share drop on lack of models in clam shell design - previously Nokia insisted on candy bar design because Nokia was not able to provide strong enough mechanical construction for clam shell design. However the truth is more revealing: Nokia insists on using its own (yes, Nokia owns majority of Symbian consortium) operating system, rather being open to other operating systems like Linux and Windows Mobile - like Motorola and Samsung are doing. Nokia should take example from Motorola and Samsung not only in the area of physical design (clam shell) but also in the area of software. Otherwise this whole talk about "forgetting about clam shell design" is only a failed attempt in searching for scapegoat.
Conclusion: don't trust Nokia and don't buy their phones!
Some extremely cool smartphones, powered by Microsoft software and made by Motorola and other vendors are coming to the market in next 2-3 months. Life is too short to buy Nokia smarthones. Smartphones powered by Microsoft software offer the best technology unmatched by Nokia's lame attempts in deception...
