Latest Mobile Windows News: Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade for Samsung BlackJack II ( SGH-i617 ) released September 03, 2008; [without touch-screen] Unfortunatley the top-of-the line Samsung's phone with front-facing keyboard Samsung i780 (the one with touch-screen and touch-pad) still has no Windows Mobile 6.1 ... HTC announces S740 smartphone August 26, 2008; [without touch-screen] Between August 29 and September 3 a consumer electronics show "IFA" takes place in Berlin and this may be the reason, why HTC is revealing this smartphone this week. It is the first Windows Mobile smartphone without touch-screen made by HTC for a long time. It goes on sale next month (September 2008) in Europe. While rest of the world thinks that the best QWERTY keyboard is the one usable with hand and front-facing, it looks like HTC believes that users want slide-out keyboards:
The camera in this phone lacks auto-focus, there is no 3.5 mm stereo miniplug, and the display is tiny (2.4 inch, QVGA, it would be impossible to squeeze VGA on such tiny display) but other than that, it has interesting specifications: SBSH Papyrus 2 for Windows Mobile Standard released August 19, 2008; [without touch-screen] Time management tool now available for Windows Mobile phones without touch-screen too... Nowadays however Microsoft re-branded it all and these terms are gone... but Microsoft still (presumably until release of Windows Mobile 7) is keeping 2 different platforms for phones with and without touch-screen... and even though nowadays smartphones without touch-screen are much less popular, Microsoft offers special home screen enhancement for them in recently released Windows Mobile 6.1 : Sliding Panel. Yahoo still incompetent about Windows Mobile: Yahoo! Go 3.0 released May 07, 2008; [without touch-screen] We remember times when Yahoo hated (literally!) Microsoft so much, that they were offering Yahoo! Go only for Symbian, but not for Windows Mobile. Later it has changed and Yahoo has warmed up to the Microsoft, but it is clear that Yahoo still is not competent about Windows Mobile: UK: BT launches Total Broadband Anywhere with FREE Windows Mobile smartphones May 07, 2008; [without touch-screen] British Telecom (BT) is a former monopoly in the UK and still most DSL lines in UK are using BT lines, so no wonder that this "anywhere" offering is not the best in the world (note: in the UK still there is no such thing as truly unlimited mobile Internet over cellular networks), but since BT includes Windows Mobile phones for customers, who purchase this service, we are happy to inform you about it! Note that BT is even putting its own branding on HTC-made phones:
