A good alternative solution for Pocket Internet Explorer. NetFront is an alternative web browser for Microsoft´s Pocket PC PDAs. It add multi-window support, JavaScript, PersonalJava and smart rendering technology, that makes reading normal/regular websites very comfortable even on small displays.
As you can see here:
... there are 3 main viewing modes in the menu "View / Wrap Content":
Disabled (just regular rendering that requires the most scrolling)
JustFit
SmartFit
Here is the view of the page in JustFit, which tries to squeeze all columns of the page on the display and is showing them all at once:
Another mode (our favorite) is "SmartFit", that looks like this:
... where you can see that in "SmartFit" mode the NetFront browser is simply showing one column under another - i.e. it is reformatting the page and showing in a more readable way!
In the "Wrap Content Disabled" mode the page is showed as it would like look in the browser on the PC:
... what naturally results in a need to scroll more.
Interestingly NetFront browser offers also "Auto-Cruise" feature:
... which essentially is an "off-line browsing" - you can start auto-cruise while having your Pocket PC in a craddle - through Internet passthrough of ActiveSync, and later on browse these pages without being connected to the Internet.
Another intresting features is ability to use browser plug-ins:
Conclusion: NetFront for Pocket PC is a "must have" for people who do a lot of browsing and thanks to many features (we mentioned above only a small subset of them) this browser enables you to see websites in a very similar form as they look like in a desktop PC - i.e. you don´t lose information and have high comfort of browsing. Please note: a special version of NetFront browser is also available for Toshiba e800 - and this version supports the VGA mode of this PDA - 480x640 pixels.
